Botox Application for the Face Area

Botox, or Botulinum toxin, is a toxin derived from the bacterium Klostridium botulinum. It is not snake venom as it is popularly pronounced. The toxin called Botox acts by preventing the secretion of substances that provide conduction at the nerve endings and interrupting the transmission between the nerves and the muscles or organs reached by the nerves. In other words, it prevents the contraction of mimic muscles, which cause the formation of lines especially between the forehead and eyebrows in the face area. When the mimic muscles relax, the facial lines also straighten. Botox does not damage muscle tissue or any other tissue. It only prevents the signal needed for the contraction of the muscle from reaching the muscle. The work of the mimic muscles over the years makes the folds on the skin that cover it noticeable, and thus the wrinkles on the face appear. These are most commonly seen on the forehead, between the eyebrows, around the edges of the eyes and around the mouth. The lines on the forehead and eye edges give an older appearance, and the lines between the eyebrows give the person a frowning, angry expression. The movements of these muscles can be weakened by applying botox to the mimic muscles, and the decrease in muscle movements also reduces the folding of the skin on it with muscle movements and the streaking due to folding. In this way, a significant improvement is achieved in the facial expression that seems to be old and angry.

Botox is administered in the form of injections. It is not a painful procedure, but a slight pain may be felt during the injection. In order to reduce the pain that may occur, anesthetic (painkiller) cream is applied to the application area 15-20 minutes before the application. When a decrease in the movements of the mimic muscles is desired, injection is made into the botox mimic muscles, and when the complaint of sweating is desired, injection is made into the skin.

The Botox effect occurs within the first week following the injection and the duration of action is 3-9 months and the average is 6 months. Botox can be used to eliminate forehead lines, lines between eyebrows. The eyebrow lifting effect of Botox is also important. Botox can also be injected into certain points on the eyebrows to lift the outer part of the eyebrow. It can also be used to remove wrinkles called "crow's foot" on the outside of the eyes. Recently, it has also been used in the treatment of neck wrinkles and teeth grinding.  When Botox loses its effect, the application can be repeated.
